The final results of our last project are in. Here is a picture of the garage doors we were working on. Quite a difference!
This past week we painted a few rooms for a family moving into a beautiful home in Bala Cynwyd. For their baby’s nursery they wanted vertical stripes throughout the room. They selected the colors Pink Ribbon and Rosy Cheeks from the Valspar collection. We used Sherwin Williams Cashmere paint and they matched the colors.
Painting stripes can add an elegant and unique look to almost any room and it’s not as difficult as you may think. Here are the steps involved:
First, we painted two coats of Pink Ribbon on all the walls. This is the base color and there’s no need to tape off any lines yet.
It’s important to let the base coat dry for at least 24 hours before applying the tape for the stripes. To get the acquired striped look we used a product called Frog Tape. It is available in most paint and hardware stores. Frog Tape is an incredible product especially when you are trying to have perfect lines with no paint bleed through. We use it for all over our striping jobs. Here is a link to their website: www.FrogTape.com.
We used a 12-inch vertical stripe for this job. It’s important to measure out the whole room to make sure you can evenly distribute the stripes. We measured off 12 inches from the top and bottom of the wall and used a laser level to get a straight line. We then applied the Frog Tape on the line making sure not to place the tape in the area where the second color will be painted.
Once all the tape was on the wall we applied the second color Rosy Cheeks. It’s a nerve-racking experience because you cannot see the final product with the tape still on. Once the second coat was dry we removed the tape. We, and more importantly the homeowners, were thrilled with the results. The stripes really make the nursery quite special.
